Hart, Nancy (c. 1735–c. 1830) Revolutionary War hero (born Ann Morgan in Pennsylvania or North Carolina) reputedly responsible for the capture and hanging of several Tories in Georgia in 1780, one or more of whom she murdered. Accounts of her exploits depend on oral tradition; the first written version did not appear until 1848, making it virtually impossible to distinguish the historical from the legendary Nancy Hart.
