Franklin and Nashville Campaign

Franklin and Nashville Campaign a Confederate plan pursued by Confederate Gen. John B. Hood during the Civil War that attempted to cut communication lines between Union Gen. William T. Sherman, who had just captured Atlanta, and Union forces to the north. Hood's forces tried to destroy the railroad between Murfreesborough and Nashville in Tennessee. Hood's attempt led to the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864, and the Battle of Nashville on December 15, 1864. Both were Union victories; they marked the last major battles west of the Appalachians.
