Devens, Charles, Jr. (1820–91) Union army officer born in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Devens participated in the
Peninsular Campaign (1862) and in the battles of
Fair Oaks,
Fredericksburg(both 1862, where his command covered the army's retreat across the Rappahannock River),
Chancellorsville (1863), and
Cold Harbor (1864).
