Crown Point

Crown Point a town on Lake Champlain, New York, that was the site the French fort Fort Frederic. It fell to British forces under Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Amherst in 1759 in the French and Indian War (1754–63). The British began a new fort, Fort Amherst (later named Crown Point). The fort was captured in May 1775 by the Green Mountain Boys. It was finally abandoned in 1777 to Gen. John Burgoyne.
