Cooperative Threat Reduction

Cooperative Threat Reduction a Department of Defense program implemented in November 1991, at the end of the Cold War, as a measure to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons systems. It was established to assist the new independent states of the former Soviet Union in the storage, transportation, dismantlement, and elimination of nuclear weapons from the Soviet era.
