Cheyenne Dog Soldiers a company of Cheyenne warriors who were the military elite of the Cheyenne Nation. They were active initially with other Native tribes and later with U.S. forces, in conflicts and raids in the areas that are now Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming from the 1830s. They consistently refused to enter into treaties with the United States. They suffered a decisive defeat in a battle with U.S. cavalry at Summit Springs, Colorado, in 1869.
