Aurora

Aurora a hypersonic reconnaissance aircraft (replacing the canceled SR-71 Blackbird spyplanes) rumored to be a project of the Lockheed Advanced Development Co. (”the Skunk Works”) for the U.S. Air Force still being secretly developed at Groom Dry Lake (Area 51) in the Nevada desert. This project has come to be called “Aurora” because that name appeared below the SR-71 and U-2 aircraft in the Pentagon's 1985 budget request, but, if this were the aircraft's name at the time, it has since been changed to maintain secrecy.
