Alabama, USS commissioned on August 16, 1942, a South Dakota Class battleship (BB60), the
Alabama was used in both the European and Pacific theaters during
World War II. It protected British convoys and, in the Pacific, was used to protect U.S. amphibious assault forces and to defend allied carriers with intense antiaircraft fire.
The USS
Alabama is now located in Mobile and serves as a memorial to all Alabama veterans of
World War II, and has hosted nearly 10 million paid visitors.
