Aix-la-Chapelle, Peace of ˌeks lä ʃäˈpel; ˌāks on October 18, 1748, the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle ended the War of the Austrian Succession, which was fought in North America between France and Britain as King George's War. It restored the possessions of both warring countries and served as a truce, but it failed to resolve disputes over dominance of North America.
