38th parallel

38th parallel the latitudinal line that approximately forms the boundary between North Korea and South Korea. Its use for the partition of Korea was proposed at the Potsdam Conference in 1945. During the Korean War, each side temporarily controlled area beyond the line, but by the war's end the 38th parallel again was the dividing line between the countries.
