pharyngeal (fa-rin-jee-ăl) adj. of or relating to the pharynx. p. pouch (branchial pouch, visceral pouch) any of the paired segmented pouches in the side of the throat of the early embryo. They give rise to the tympanic cavity, the parathyroid glands, the thymus, and probably the thyroid gland. p. reflex see gag reflex.
