hairy cell

hairy cell (hair-i) n. an abnormal white blood cell that has the appearance of an immature lymphocyte with fine hairlike cytoplasmic projections around the perimeter of the cell. It is found in a rare form of leukaemia (h.-c. leukaemia) most commonly occurring in young men.
