rondeau, a French verse form consisting of ten (or, in stricter sense, thirteen) lines, having only two rhymes throughout, and with the opening words used twice as a refrain. It became popular in England in the late 19th cent. and was much used by Dobson, Swinburne, and others. The rondel is a form of rondeau, again using two rhymes and a refrain, usually of three stanzas.
