leonine verse, a kind of Latin verse much used in the Middle Ages, consisting of hexameters, or alternate hexameters and pentameters, in which the last word rhymes with that preceding the caesura; for instance:His replicans clare tres causas explico quare
More Leonino dicere metra sino.
The term is applied to English verse of which the middle and last syllables rhyme.
