Silkin, Jon

Silkin, Jon (1930–97), poet. His first volume, The Peaceable Kingdom (1954), was followed by many others, including Nature with Man (1965, which contains many of his piercingly observed ‘flower poems’), Amana Grass (1971), and The Principle of Water (1974); his Selected Poems was published in 1980. Other volumes include Autobiographical Stanzas (1984), and The Lens-Breakers (1992). He founded the literary quarterly Stand in 1950.
