Copyright
Robertson, William (1721–93), a Presbyterian parish minister who achieved fame on the publication of his
History of Scotland during the Reign of Queen Mary and of King James VI (1759). He also published a history of the reign of Charles V (1769),
The History of America (1777), and a
Disquisition Concerning the Knowledge which the Ancients Had of India (1791). Both in style and in scholarship his work is comparable with that of
Hume.
