Quennell, Peter (1905–93), poet, historian, biographer, was editor of the
Cornhill Magazine (1944–51) and of
History Today (1951–79). His first volume,
Masques and Poems (1922), was followed by many other works, including
Four Portraits (1945; studies of
Boswell,
Gibbon,
Sterne, and
Wilkes).
