Penshurst Place, in Kent, has been in the possession of the Sidney family since 1552, and was the birthplace of Sir P.
Sidney. Many writers enjoyed its hospitality, including
Jonson, who paid a graceful tribute in ‘To Penshurst’ (
The Forest, 1616). (See also
