London Mercury

The Concise Oxford Companion to English Literature | 2003 | 320 words | Copyright

London Mercury, a monthly literary periodical founded in 1919 by J. C. Squire, who edited it until 1934, and used it in its early days as a vehicle to condemn Modernism. Contributors included de la Mare, Chesterton, Belloc, W. H. Davies, Yeats, and D. H. Lawrence. In 1939 it was incorporated in Life and Letters.
