Lee, Harriet (1757–1851), ran a private school in Bath with her sister Sophia Lee. Her epistolary novel Errors of Innocence appeared in 1786, and Clare Lennox in 1797. Her successful Canterbury Tales (in part a collaboration with Sophia) appeared in 1798, with three further volumes in 1805; the twelve stories of the Tales, told by travellers, include ‘Kruitzner’ on which Byron based his verse drama Werner (1802).
