Hobson, a Cambridge carrier, who died in Jan. 1630–1. Milton wrote two epitaphs on him, and his name survives in the phrase ‘ Hobson's choice’, which refers to his custom of letting out his horses in rotation, and not allowing his customers to choose among them. (See Spectator, No. 509.)
