Grierson, Sir Herbert John Clifford

Grierson, Sir Herbert John Clifford (1866–1960), scholar, who advanced the study of Donne and the metaphysical poets in his pioneering, well-annotated edition of Donne's poems (1912) and in Metaphysical Lyrics and Poems of the Seventeenth Century (1921). He also edited (with G. Bullough) The Oxford Book of Seventeenth Century Verse (1934), was co-editor of a 12-volume edition of Sir W. Scott's letters (1932–7), and published a biography of Scott (1938).
