Galen ( Claudius Galenus) (
c. ad 129–99), a celebrated physician reputed to have written some 500 treatises in Greek, a number of which have survived. Translated into Latin during the 11th and 12th cents, his writings dominated the development of medieval medicine.
Linacre translated six of his works and there are references to him in
Chaucer, F.
Bacon, and Sir T.
Browne.
