Morte D'Arthur, is the name of several ladies whose identities sometimes overlap: (1) Elaine Le Blank, the Fair Maid of Astolat (
Tennyson's Lady of Shalott) who falls in love with Launcelot and dies for love of him (see
Launcelot of the Lake); (2) Elayne the Fair or Sans Pere (Peerless), the daughter of King Pelles and the mother, by Launcelot, of
Galahad; (3) Elayne the sister of Morgawse and
Morgan le Fay; (4) Elayne the wife of King
Ban and mother of Launcelot; (5) Elayne the daughter of King Pellinore.
