Dream of the Rood, an Old English poem of 156 lines, in the Vercelli Book, in three parts: a description of the poet's vision of the cross and the address to him by the cross describing the Crucifixion (paralleled in part by the inscriptions on Ruthwell Cross); a homiletic address to the dreamer by the cross; and a declaration of faith and confidence in heaven by the dreamer himself.
