Croly, George (1780–1860), author of Paris in 1815 (1817); Catiline (1822), a tragedy; May Fair (1827), a satire; Salathiel (1829), a romance of the Wandering Jew, Rome under Nero, and the siege of Jerusalem by Titus; Marston (1846), a romance to which the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars provide the background; and numerous other works.
