Thackeray as editor and specialized in the serialization of novels. Trollope's
Framley Parsonage was succeeded by the novels of, among others, Mrs
Gaskell,
Reade, G.
Eliot, and
Hardy; many poems of
Tennyson, R.
Browning, and
Swinburne first appeared in it, as well as work by
Ruskin,
MacDonald, and another of its editors, L.
Stephen.
