Cornhill Magazine (1860–1975), a literary periodical, began with Thackeray as editor and specialized in the serialization of novels. Trollope's Framley Parsonage was succeeded by the novels of, among others, Mrs Gaskell, Reade, G. Eliot, and Hardy; many poems of Tennyson, R. Browning, and Swinburne first appeared in it, as well as work by Ruskin, MacDonald, and another of its editors, L. Stephen.
