Chaste Mayd in Cheap-side, A

Chaste Mayd in Cheap-side, A, a comedy by T. Middleton, written 1613, printed 1630.

The play centres on the attempt of the dissolute Sir Walter Whorehound to pass off his mistress as his niece (the ‘Chaste Maid’) and to marry her to the foolish pedantic son of Yellowhammer, a rich goldsmith; while Whorehound himself is to marry Yellowhammer's daughter Moll. The second part of the plot fails; Moll and the resourceful young Touchwood are in love and their attempts to get married, though repeatedly foiled, are finally successful.
