Cato, a tragedy by Addison, produced 1713.

It deals with the death of Cato the republican, who commits suicide rather than submit to the dictator Caesar. Dr Johnson described it as ‘rather a poem in dialogue than a drama’. It owed its success partly to the political intentions imputed to it.
