Camelot, the seat of King Arthur's court, is said by
Malory to be Winchester. It may be Camelford in Cornwall, the name actually given it by
Laʒamon; following Drayton's
Poly-Olbion, it is identified as South Cadbury in Somerset, and
Leland says he found traces of Arthur in Queen's Camel in Somerset which was previously called Camelot. Colchester has also claimed it.
