Beaux' Stratagem, The

Beaux' Stratagem, The, a comedy by Farquhar, produced 1707.

It describes the adventures of penniless young Aimwell and his friend Archer, who, to save money, pretends to be Aimwell's servant: much confusion follows, but all ends happily as Aimwell wins the affection of Dorinda, daughter of the wealthy Lady Bountiful, and inherits a fortune from his elder brother, and Archer is united with Mrs Sullen, newly released from her unhappy marriage to Lady Bountiful's son, a drunken sot.
