Rhythm Group. A group of British and American painters working in Paris in the circle of J. D. Fergusson in the years immediately before the First World War and influenced by the bright colours of Fauvism. The name comes from the magazine Rhythm (1911–13), of which Fergusson was art editor. Among the members of the group was the American-born painter Anne Estelle Rice (1877–1959), who lived in Paris from 1906 to 1911, then settled in England. Fergusson painted several portraits of her, including Blue Beads (Tate Gallery, London, 1910). The group exhibited together at the Stafford Gallery, London, in 1912.

The Rhythm Group was also the name of an association of Polish artists, active formally from 1922 to 1932 and informally for several years after its disbandment. The group had no clear artistic policy but was associated particularly with the Art Deco style (the members produced a good deal of commercial design as well as paintings).
