November Group. An association of Finnish Expressionist artists founded in Helsinki in November 1917. This was only a month before Finland's declaration of independence from Russia, and the members of the group were sometimes aggressively nationalistic in their approach. Tyko
Sallinen was the leading figure; among the others were Ilmari Aalto (1891–1934), Alvar Cawén (1886–1935), Marcus Collin (1882–1966), and Ragnar Ekelund (1892–1960). The group held annual exhibitions until 1924.
