Documents of Modern Art

Documents of Modern Art. A series of key texts and anthologies of writings on aspects of 20th-century art, edited by Robert Motherwell and published in New York from 1944 to 1961. There are 14 volumes in the series, although the numbering goes up to 15, as volume 13 was never published. They include Apollinaire's The Cubist Painters (1944), Mondrian's Plastic Art and Pure Plastic Art (1945), and Kandinsky's Concerning the Spiritual in Art (1947).
