Young Italy

Young Italy An Italian patriotic society. Formed in 1831 by Giuseppe MAZZINI and 40 other Italian exiles in Marseilles, it set out to replace earlier secret societies, such as the CARBONARI as a prime force in the RISORGIMENTO. Its significance lay in the kindling of national consciousness and thus contributed towards Italian unification.
