Unequal Treaties

Unequal Treaties A number of treaties made between China and various Western powers in the 19th century. The QING dynasty was generally unable to resist foreign pressure for commercial and territorial concessions and in such agreements as the Treaty of NANJING (1842) was forced to agree to Western demands.
