South-East Asia Treaty Organization
South-East Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) A defence alliance established in 1954 for countries of south-east Asia and part of the south-west Pacific, to further a US policy of containment of Communism. Its members were Australia, Britain, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, and the US. The organization was dissolved in 1977.
