Shang A dynasty that ruled China during part of the 2nd millennium BC, probably 16th–11th centuries BC. The discovery of inscriptions on more than 100,000 tortoise shells confirmed literary references to the existence of the Shang dynasty, which witnessed the perfection of the wheel, the use of chariots in warfare, bronze casting, and the carving of jade and ivory.
