Sadowa, Battle of (3 July 1866) A battle fought near the Bohemian town of Sadowa (Königgrätz), between the Prussian army under Field Marshal Moltke and Benedek's Austrian army. The Prussians were able to overcome Benedek by their superior mobility and weapons. This battle decided the Seven Weeks War (see AUSTRO-PRUSSIAN WAR) and marked the end of Austrian influence in Germany. Prussian domination in north Germany was confirmed.
