Poitiers, Battle of

Poitiers, Battle of (19 September 1356) A battle between the English and French during the HUNDRED YEARS WAR. An English and Gascon force under EDWARD THE BLACK PRINCE was trapped by a superior French army while raiding. The English archers defeated the French and their king, John II, was captured. The JACQUERIE revolt followed soon after.
