Mulroney, (Martin) Brian
Mulroney, (Martin) Brian (1939– ) Canadian Progressive Conservative statesman, Prime Minister (1984–93). After becoming leader of the Progressive Conservative Party in 1983, he won a landslide victory in the 1984 election. He was re-elected in 1988 on a ticket of free trade with the USA, but stood down in 1993 after the Canadian recession caused his popularity to slump in the opinion polls.
