Margaret of Anjou (1430–82) Queen of England. Her marriage to HENRY VI in 1445 ensured a truce in the war between England and France. During the Wars of the ROSES Henry's weakness caused the LANCASTRIAN party to centre on his indomitable wife; in February 1461 she won the second Battle of St Albans but by her hesitation lost the chance to keep Henry on the throne, and she had to flee to Scotland and thence to France. Except for the few months that Henry regained the throne in 1470–71, she spent most of the rest of her life in her native Anjou.
