Joinville, Jean de

Joinville, Jean de (1224–1317) French historian and courtier. He was a friend and confidant of LOUIS IX, accompanying him on the Seventh CRUSADE (1248–54). He advised against the Eighth Crusade and did not join it. His Histoire de St Louis was principally an account of the Seventh Crusade, written with humour and sincerity.
