Joanna the Mad
Joanna the Mad (1479–1555) Nominal Queen of Castile (from 1504) and of Aragon (from 1516). She was the daughter of
FERDINAND V and
ISABELLA I of Spain and the wife of
PHILIP IV of Burgundy. After Philip's death in 1506 she became insane. In 1509 she retired to Tordesillas, accompanied by Philip's embalmed corpse. Her sons later became the emperors
CHARLES V and Ferdinand I.
