Jackson, Thomas Jonathan
Jackson, Thomas Jonathan (known as ‘ Stonewall Jackson’) (1824–63) US general. During the American Civil War he made his mark as a commander at the first Battle of Bull Run in 1861; a successful defensive stand there earned him his nickname. As the deputy of Robert E. Lee, he played an important part in the Confederate victories in Virginia in the first two years of the war.
