Hyksos (from Egyptian, ‘rulers of foreign lands’) Invaders, probably from Palestine, who ruled Lower Egypt and part of Upper Egypt from c.1674 BC. Their power lasted until c.1550 BC, when they were overthrown by a rebellion started by the Egyptians of Thebes. The introduction of the horse and chariot was attributed to them. Egyptian remained the official language.
