Greene, Nathanael
Greene, Nathanael (1742–86) American general who led his colony's troops at the Siege of Boston (1775–76) and fought at Long Island, Trenton,
BRANDYWINE,
GERMANTOWN, and Monmouth. In command in the south (1780–81) he waged a brilliant hit-and-run campaign against
CORNWALLIS, eventually recapturing most of the region.
