Giap, Vo Nguyen (1912– ) Vietnamese military and political leader. As North Vietnamese Vice-Premier and Defence Minister, he was responsible for the strategy leading to the withdrawal of American forces from South Vietnam in 1973 and the subsequent reunification of the country in 1975. His book
People's War, People's Army (1961) was an influential text for revolutionaries.
