Fifteen, the (1715) A JACOBITE rebellion aimed at removing the Hanoverian GEORGE I from the British throne. Queen ANNE's sudden death in August 1714 had caught the Jacobites by surprise. Their lack of preparedness and their inability to win the English Tories to their cause delayed the rebellion until September 1715. A simultaneous rising in Scotland and England was planned, with Thomas Forster to lead the English northern rebels and the indecisive Earl of Mar to command the Scots. Forster was compelled to surrender his small force at Preston and Mar's inconclusive battle at Sheriffmuir virtually ended the rebellion.
