Darnley, Henry Stuart, Lord

Darnley, Henry Stuart, Lord (1545–67) Anglo-Scottish aristocrat, second husband of MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS. After their union in 1565, Mary produced a son, the future James VI of Scotland and JAMES I of England. Mary's reliance on her secretary David RIZZIO (who may have been her lover) led Darnley to murder him. Darnley was subsequently murdered in a conspiracy involving the Earl of BOTHWELL.
